After visiting RHS Wisley, Sue and I came back with two books, Organic Gardening and No Dig, both by pioneer Charles Dowding. The RHS advisor praised Charles’s work and this was reinforced when, having seen our website, Charles contacted us directly.
He advocates that we should not even dig up the turf but we do not have a stock of mature compost to make this work. However we did agree to a trial bed. As you can see from the pics, we laid two layers of cardboard (great recycling) and then covered them with manure and soil. We will keep you in touch with how the experiment goes.
